Good afternoon everyone! Here is another summer update from me at Preiser Animal Hospital. COVID and the expected spike in cases in our area will keep us with our curbside COVID appointment only protocols, most likely through at least the end of August! Expect this to continue unless updated here or otherwise by me.

We have been busy and booked solid with appointments! If you make an appointment, please arrive 10-15 minutes early, as we have a designated allotted time for your pet and would like to take all the time we need to maximize your pet’s care! When my tech comes to get your pet, we are ready for him or her and will start the appointment right away, probably getting extra kisses and hugs along the way! 🙂 If your dog is shy, have him/her on a leash before my tech takes him inside so there is no chance of him/her slipping. Retractable leashes are NOT desirable for use.

Please come to your appointment. No shows take another potential pet’s time away from veterinary needs. Life happens so please call if you need to cancel, even last minute. It is much appreciated if you would let us know when you cannot make your appointment, as it allows us to handle more emergency cases or take one more of the many people looking for same-day appointments. Please plan ahead if your pet needs annual exams and vaccines– we have been booked a few weeks out for regular appointments and surgeries, and we don’t want you to have to wait any longer than is necessary!!!

I am constantly evaluating our COVID protocols and have one important update: I ask that you please wear a mask in your car when my tech comes to take your pet. I ask this because there are significant times during our interactions that make it impossible to safely social distance during our time with you and your pet. This is not a commentary on your or my political leanings, whatever other people have made you believe, but knowledge of vectors of disease and the way viruses spread amongst populations. If you are unable to follow this request, your pet will not be able to be cared for at Preiser Animal Hospital. This type of protection for my staff and YOU is required in Illinois and is followed by the vast majority of animal and human health care providers. This is how I’m conducting my business right now and it’s my strong opinion this is the way to keep YOU and my TEAM safe.

There have been several veterinary hospitals that have to shut down due to staff members testing positive for COVID, which is a real possibility for us, in the event that one of my staff members tests positive. I have a small close team and will do what I have to do to protect my work family and my team’s families!

I’m always open to feedback. Our extra trips outside for my techs, the phones ringing OFF THE HOOK, the weather, sick patients, longer surgeries, different doctor styles, sometimes extra long client questions, all contribute to our varied appointment times and wait times.

This is a stressful time, but I will not tolerate disrespect to my staff, my doctors, or myself. I hate to have to say this because it shouldn’t be necessary, but I have experienced the kind of behavior that I can only hope to blame on the increased stress of these trying times.

PLEASE BE KIND. PLEASE BE PATIENT. For all those that know and trust myself and my team, I run a fair, transparent practice. I’ve demonstrated my commitment to be there above and beyond for many of your pets and at times like this, I want KINDNESS and COMPASSION to prevail. If you think of it, please express your appreciation to the tech that helps you with your pet or the kind voice at the other end of the phone! A smile goes a long way!

WE ARE OPEN and here to help you! Here are some of the COVID precautions we are taking:

  • Please call ahead for an appointment at 847-827-5200.
  • In order to maintain containment, we are mandating NO CLIENTS in the hospital. We will be utilizing a concierge service. Please stay in your car and call us when you arrive. A technician will come out, take a history, and transport your patient to our exam room. The doctor will then do his/her exam and call you with their assessment. We will walk you through the process.
  • No restrooms are available for client use at this time
  • Refills will be filled via concierge service. Please call and we will bring what you need out to you.
  • Surgeries –elective surgeries are postponed until the Quarantine is lifted. Elective surgery is a spay or neuter, and anything that isn’t urgent.
  • We are here to help, but please stay at home as much as possible. Elective appointments (such as nail trims) can wait. If you are symptomatic, please stay home.
  • Our team is here to help and we’d like to stay open. It’s important to us that our clients stay safe, but also our team.

Dr. Preiser is available for phone/video consultations as well to even better serve you during this quarantine period. Please call us for anything you may need!
