Glucosamine/Chondroitin (with MSM)

Function: contributes to cartilage formation and repair, reduces inflammation, slows cartilage deterioration, and improves elastic properties of cartilage and reduces painful swelling in joints.

Dose: Large dog > 50 #- 1500-2000 mg/day, small dog 25-50#- 850-1000 mg/day. 

Recommended brands- Dasuquin*, Cosequin, Bayer Synovi G4

Green Lipped Mussel

Function: chrondromodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, improve joint swelling

Recommended brands- Glyde*, Super Snout

Turmeric

Function: for systemic inflammation

Dose: Small dog – 250mg 2-3 times daily. Max dose 750 mg daily. Large dog – 500-800 mg 2-3 times daily. Max dose 2,000 mg daily. Capsules are better than powder for our patient’s taste buds!

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Function: for overall long term inflammation throughout the body, decreasing cellular injury and tissue damage

Small dog- 100-200 IU daily. Large Dog- 200-400 IU daily. Omegas and fatty acids such as fish oil, salmon oil are great sources!

Recommended Brand- Welactin* Salmon Oil

Pharmaceuticals For Arthritis

Adequan*, NSAIDs*. Ask our team if you think it’s time for these prescription medications!

Vaccine Reactions

Short Term Nonspecific Reactions

Your pet may display short-lived side effects for up to 1-2 days, following the administration of any vaccine:

  • Reduced appetite or loss of appetite 
  • Pain at the injection site
  • Lethargy/Groggy (lack of activity)
  • Reluctance to walk/run
  • Mild fever

Dog

  • Right Hip: Rabies
  • Left Hip: Influenza/ Lyme
  • Right Shoulder: Lepto
  • Left Shoulder: DAP +/- Lepto
  • Intranasal: Bordetella

Cat

  • Right hip: Rabies
  • Right Shoulder: FVRCP
  • Left Hip: Leukemia

Allergic Reactions

Please call us and notify us immediately if  your pet develops any of these less common but serious signs:

  • 1-5 lbs: (½) 12.5mg Tablet or (¼) 25 mg Tablet
  • 5-15 lbs: (1) 12.5 mg Tablet or (½) 25 mg Tablet
  • 16-30 lbs: (1) 25 mg Tablet
  • 31-75 lbs: (2) 25 mg Tablets
  • 76-100 lbs : (4) 25 mg Tablets

*May give every 8 hours for 48-72 hrs after vaccines

Injection Site Reactions

Sometimes a small firm swelling (“lump”) may develop at the injection site. This is expected to resolve within 1 month. Contact us if it is still painful after 1-2 days, continues to grow or persists beyond 1 month.
